It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share this news today. Our good friend Mozart "( Moe Moe )" passed away before the end of his bone marrow transplant protocol was complete. Mozart bravely battled lymphoma for five months before crossing the bridge peacefully last Thursday. Mozart had a brave spirit and his silly snorts earned the love of all who met him. Moe Moe is a canine cancer hero and a pioneer for everyone who has battled canine cancer with their pups -- receiving cutting-edge treatments so that the rest of us may benefit someday. Please send love, prayers, chants, wishes, + energy to Moe Moe's Mama Katie who is handling the news of his passing with a courage and grace that leaves us in awe of her strength. Rest In Peace Mozart you will be forever loved and missed. xo |

Mozart’s trip to NCSU Veterinary School of medicine.
We left on March 14th for his big trip. On march 15th he got to meet Dr. Suter, Dr. Warry and Buffy. He started his Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor, (GCSF) Neupogen . Basically the Neupogen drives the stem cells from the bone marrow into the peripheral blood, increasing their numbers in preparation for harvest. He got 2 injections twice a day for 4 days.
On March 18th I had to drop him off and leave him there for 3 weeks =( It was so hard not crying in front of him.
March 19th he got his Apheresis which a catheter was placed into the jugular vein, which will allow blood to be carried into the machine and then returned following removal of the stem cells. Sometimes they can’t retrieve enough stem cells and they have to do the Neupogen all over again or cancel the BMT. Dr. Warry called and said he did great and they got more than enough Stem cells enough for a back up bag. YAY so far so good! Please click the video below to watch Mozart's Journey to the CURE!

On march 1st. Mozart had his big 750 mg dose of Cytoxan. NC State sent info that said 50% of dogs that recieve the high dose of Cytoxan need to be hospitalized 5 to 7 days after treatment for 24 to 48 hours. Thankfully Mozart sailed through it with no problems!
On March 9th I noticed that Mozarts what trembling and was worm to the touch. So I checked his temp. and it was 103.5. His Oncologist said that if it gets to 103 then to seek medical attention. So I took him to his regular vet and Dr. Frost took his temp and it was 101.5. So she injected fluids under the skin and sent us on our merry way. (Cost was $100.00 )
At 11pm I noticed Mozart felt warm again so I took his temp and it was 103.5. So I rushed him to the veterinary emergency hospital and they also injected more fluids under the skin and said if Mozarts temp doesn't go down he will need to be hospitalized. (Cost $120.00)
At 4:30 am I noticed Mozart was not cooling down so I took his temperatire once again and it was 104.3. I took him back to the emergency hospital and they hospitalized him for 24 hours. His WBC ( white blood cell counts) were almost at 0!! Yikes !! So they gave him 3 different antibiotics and I.V fluids that finally brought his temp. back into normal range and I got to pick him up at 5pm the next day.( Cost of the overnight care $675.00)
Today is March 13th and Mozart is doing awesome!!! His Temp is still good and he is playing and eating / drinking normal. We leave tomorrow for NCSU and now I can’t wait to get there just so I know that he is in safe hands of a team of doctors that can take care of him if anything should arise. Will be updating soon with videos of our trip to NCSU so please check back soon!
Most Sincerely,
Mozart's Mommy- Katie
Today was Mozarts last big treatment 750 mg. of Cytoxan. Drop him off at 8:30 then went straight home and deep cleaned the house since he will be susceptible to infection. Dr. Suter at NCSU said that 505 of all dogs that get this last big treatment are hospitalized 5 to 7 days after treatment for 24 to 48 hours because of its high dose. I am hoping he is not one of them not only cause I really don’t want him to be sick but also cause I don’t really have the money to pay for hospitalization! Especially since I just spent 875.00 on this last treatment, But he is worth every penny.
Dr. Kramer said that since this dose is so potent they had to give him a diuretic to help flush the Cytoxan out of his bladder so it doesn’t cause any damage. So I had to take him out every 2 to 3 hours to empty his bladder for the next 36 hours. But I didn’t want to take any chances so I took him out every hour! He got out of bed one time to get some water that I had put out for him and I hear this THUMP! I got up to see what it was and he had jumped off the bed but he had fell cause his leg had fell asleep. When I tried to pick him up to put him back in bed he refused to let me and tried to jump up and fell again! He is so stubborn like his mommy. LOL
It is now March 3rd. and Mozart is doing well. He isn’t eating much but he is drinking at lot of fluids and is taking his vitamin C to help his immune system and his K9 immunity so I hope that helps . I took his temp. last night and it was good 100.3 (102 to 103 being to high) so all is well so far I will keep you guys updated on the next couple of crucial days to come!

Most Sincerely,
Mozart's Mommy- Katie

Here is the lasted update on Mozart. He had his blood count check today and his counts were low. =( so they put him on antibiotics but luckily it was his week off from treatment so that didn’t get effected any.
Mozart only has one more apt. before the big trip to NCSU. His next apt. he will be getting the 750 mg dose of Cytoxan (the normal dose it is 250mg ) His vet says he has never giving such a strong dose of Cytoxan before and that it will kill all of his bone marrow. Yikes! So needless to say I am supper nervous!
We also have good news... www.dccfund.org donated $1,200 toward Mozart’s Canine Bone Marrow Transplant!!!
Also I just got approved for a $10,000 loan from my bank for the transplant. Thank god for my good credit. I wasn’t sure they would approve me because I only make $25,000 a year but thankfully they did!
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED MOZART BY DONATING money; clothes/items to sell on eBay, emotional support and for posting & sharing his page. We wouldn't be here without your help!!
We still have a ways to go, however I'm confident that TOGETHER WILL GET MOZART TO HIS CURE!!!
Most Sincerely,
Mozart's Mommy- Katie

Mozart had his treatment of Doxorubicin on Tuesday February the 14th. The nurse said the looks great and has more energy from him then she has seen for a while. But today (Thursday the 16th) he hadn't eaten the day before and wouldn't eat his favorite treat and seemed lethargic so he had me worried. I checked his temperature and it was good so I checked for signs of dehydration and it seemed that the was a little dehydrated and he had some diarrhea so I gave him a pepcid and after and hour he eat some fresh boiled chicken and seems to be back in his old ways playing rope. |
